The Big Picture

The Georgia Zoological Society (GZS) is a private 501(c)(3) non-profit organization committed to advancing wildlife conservation through education and meaningful experiences with animals and natural habitats. Our aim is to make these meaningful encounters accessible to everyone, especially those in underserved communities who may not otherwise have the opportunity.

GZS pursues its mission through:

We provide educational and engaging experiences that enrich children's academic journeys and support lifelong learning for adults, especially for those who might not otherwise have access. We believe that learning about wildlife and conservation should be accessible to everyone, regardless of age or background.

The Importance of Conservation EDUCATION

Connection Drives Conservation

Wildlife across the globe is facing increasing pressure from habitat loss, human expansion, illegal wildlife trade, and environmental change. These challenges continue to impact species at an alarming rate, threatening ecosystems that are essential to the health of our planet. Yet despite the urgency, many people remain unaware of the scope of these issues or feel disconnected from the animals and natural spaces most in need of protection.

At the Georgia Zoological Society, we believe conservation starts with connection. People are more likely to protect what they understand and value, and that understanding is often shaped through meaningful, firsthand experiences. Education plays a critical role in bridging this gap by helping individuals move from awareness to a deeper sense of responsibility for the natural world.

Through experience based learning and intentional engagement, we create opportunities for people to connect with wildlife in ways that spark curiosity, build empathy, and encourage long term stewardship. These moments of connection are often the beginning of a larger pathway, shaping how individuals think about conservation and the role they can play in protecting it.

There is also reason for hope. While many species continue to face significant challenges, conservation efforts driven by research, collaboration, and community engagement are making measurable progress. Success stories, both globally and within our own region, demonstrate that when people are informed and involved, meaningful change is possible.

At the Georgia Zoological Society, our work is guided by a commitment to education, conservation, community, and leadership. By creating access to meaningful experiences and supporting conservation efforts in Georgia and beyond, we are helping build a more informed and engaged community.

Together, we can inspire connection, encourage action, and help ensure a future where wildlife and natural spaces are protected for generations to come.
